1) GOVERNOR JIM GIBBONS
ON 4/28/2009 FORMER GOVERNOR JIM GIBBONS SIGNED STATE FISCAL STABILIZATION FUND PROGRAM APPLICATION.
In the application NV had to agree to:
a) Establish SLDS
b) Take actions to improve teacher effectiveness
c) Enhance the quality of academic assessments
d) Improve academic content standards (which later became CC).
ON 5/28/10 FORMER GOVENOR GIBBONS SIGNED THE RACE TO THE TOP PHASE 2 APPLICATION AND AGREED TO:
a) Adopt CC
b) ImprovE data systems to link every teacher with student data for instructional change and measures of student growth
c) Establish teacher and principal evaluations for analyzing teacher and principal effectiveness
Many governors, including Governor Gibbons, have since said CC has changed from what they agreed to. GOVERNOR JINDAL LOUISIANA IS THE PRIME EXAMPLE.
Here is part of an email Governor Gibbons sent to Christy Armbruster MD Elko, NV in April 2014:
“Please understand that I currently do not support ‘Common Core’ or its principle purpose, as it has changed since it was introduced and signed while I was the State’s Governor. Respectfully, Jim Gibbons”
Who else in NV opposes CC:
2) THE REPUBLICAN PARTY OF NEVADA
3) Nevada Federation of Republican Women - Resolution 6, October 11-13, 2013
4) DEMOCRATIC PARTY OF CLARK COUNTY
5) Numerous (probably most) county Republican Committees
Many others in Nevada, we are currently working on a list.
In other states and around the country there are way too many people and entities who oppose CC to list here.
